BALBOA BASICS | 6:00 p.m. — 7:00 p.m.

Balboa is a classic vintage swing dance that is experiencing a HUGE resurgence around the world!  Originally created in Southern California, Balboa is danced close to your partner and is mostly associated with fast, close-to-the-floor footwork and incredible moves.  Balboa’s simple basic rhythm and footwork make it a great choice for dancing and enjoying faster tempos of swing music, but as the originators of the dance insist, Bal is danced to ALL tempos.  In this class, we teach solid technique for some of the foundational moves in Balboa including Come-Arounds, Toss Outs (aka Spike Outs or Throw Outs), Push (or Cross) Breaks, Bal-Swingouts, Lolly Kicks and more.  Come learn this amazing classic dance!  It’s addictive…

LINDY HOP BASICS | 7:00 p.m. — 8:00 p.m.

Lindy Hop is the classic swing dance from the original swing era!  Originally developed in Harlem in New York City, the Lindy Hop swept the nation.  Danced with a mixture of six-count and eight-count rhythms, Lindy is a very versatile and musical dance that will keep you coming back for more.  It can be smooth, it can be crazy, it’s easy to learn but you can keep learning and improving forever, if you want to!  The Lindy Hop was called lots of things over the years (Swing, Jitterbug, The Lindy and more) and is the mother dance from which East Coast Swing and West Coast Swing derive, as well as the several ballroom and European versions (Jive, Rock and Roll dancing, Boogie-Woogie, etc.)  In this class, you learn the basic concepts for leading and following, connection and frame, and of course, many of the signature basic moves like the Swingout (plus a few variations on it), Lindy circle, side-by-side Charleston, Back (aka Shadow or Tandem) Charleston, and much, much more!  But be warned, Lindy Hop becomes an obsession very quickly!!!

SUNDAY AFTERNOON CLASSES – LEVELS TWO & THREE: LINDY HOP AND BALBOA

Balboa Level Two | 12 p.m. – 1 p.m.

Balboa is a highly addictive dance that is experiencing a HUGE resurgence worldwide. The subject of some of the biggest and most enjoyable dance camps around the world, Balboa was created during the original swing era in Southern California as a very close dance with low-to-the-ground footwork. Due to the HUGE success of our Saturday night Balboa Basics class, we are proud to offer, by popular demand, a Level Two Balboa class. This class is for anyone and everyone who has taken our Level One Balboa class at least once (preferably twice…) and is comfortable dancing Balboa at a variety of tempos. To take this class, you should be able to lead or follow: A basic, a come-around, toss-out (aka throw-out or spike-out), push breaks (aka cross breaks) and Lolly kicks. If you’ve got all that and are ready for more fun stuff, come on out!

Lindy Hop Level Two | 1 p.m. – 2 p.m.

The incredible Lindy Hop! This class is for dancers who have taken our Level One Lindy Hop class at least once (but really twice would be better…) and are ready to learn a lot more! In this class, we will be putting the spotlight on improving connection and frame, playing with different rhythms in your footwork, adding styling to your basics, as well as learning new steps and moves! This class is meant for dancers who go out socially a few times a week and are able to put this new material into practice. You should be able to comfortably lead a swingout, lindy circle, side-by-side charleston, back (or tandem) charleston, and move in and out of those things from your East Coast (6-Count Lindy) with ease. If that sounds like you, come and join us!!

Balboa Level Three | 2 p.m. – 3 p.m.

So you’ve made it through Level Two Balboa (probably two or three times, we hope…) and you LOVE IT!!!  Balboa, by this point, is becoming a favorite dance of yours and you want MORE AND MORE.  You’re DREAMING of it.  Well, this is a clear sign that you need to take Level Three.  Now your Balboa starts to float and fly, and in this class we make sure that your movement is smooth and slick, and we teach some of the classic moves created by the original Balboa dancers of Southern California, as well as lots of new combinations and movements.  We talk about the ideas and structure of Balboa and how to make the dance your own!

Lindy Hop Level Three | 3 p.m. – 4 p.m.

Now that you’ve taken Level Two a couple of times and the material there feels natural (or at least comfortable…) it’s time to take the next step and try Lindy Hop Level Three!  In this class, we learn lots more classic Lindy Hop moves and combinations that you’ve probably seen inspiring dancers doing on the dancefloor.  It’s your turn now, and in this class, we work on making you comfortable dancing at brighter tempos, and we utilize different ideas about styling and movement so that you can become the best and most natural lindy hopper  you can…

SUNDAY CLASS PRICES:
